The Cost of Staying Loved

Fear is rarely what it looks like. Most of the time, it looks like who we became to stay loved.

A powerful exploration of identity, healing, and the self beneath survival.

My Body, My Mind, and I:

The wound was hidden.
The symptoms were not.

The I retreated.
This book is about its return.

Healing begins
when fear no longer holds authority.

About the Author

Dr. Sonnie Hamner is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and minister with more than forty years of service. Her work has included the homeless, the disenfranchised, couples, first responders, veterans, business leaders, and incarcerated populations. Across these very different lives, one truth appeared again and again: the wounded heart.

Beneath anxiety, anger, addiction, depression, control, and relational pain, there was often a deeper unseen wound carried quietly for years—the fire beneath the storm.

My Body, My Mind, and I: The Cost of Staying Loved grew from years of seeing that same hidden wound take many forms—and the conviction that healing begins when fear no longer holds authority.

My Body, My Mind, and I: The Cost of Staying Loved is a completed manuscript currently being presented to publishers and literary agents.

Control is not the opposite of fear.
It is fear’s most loyal assistant.
